[Lyney hums a pleased note as he leans in to kiss Heizou back, following the detective inside. Once they're behind closed doors, he turns to Heizou with a smile.]
Indeed I am! I happened to be doing a little shopping when I stumbled across something quite magnificent, and I thought to myself, "Well, wouldn't it be wonderful to share this with my dear detective?" And so here I am!
[Always eager to play along with Lyney's games, Heizou counts down as well. One would think that with his being such a great detective that he's figured out many of Lyney's tricks. But Heizou finds it much more fun to go with the flow.
He goes ahead and checks his pockets, producing the orb from it... Which he gazes at with no small amount of wonder.]
[How did it get there? When did it get there? Alas, a magician never shares his tricks~]
It's called a Memory's Scryglass. Apparently, if one were to hold it and focus really hard, it gives someone a magnificent view. I thought it was positively marvellous.
[With a chuckle, Lyney reaches into his own pocket and pulls out a matching scryglass.]
[Lyney follows Heizou over to the couch, settling in beside the detective and curling in against his side. He tugs the blanket over to go over their laps before pulling out his scryglass.]
From what I've been told, it grants the user a glimpse of their home world. So, by using this little trinket, we may be able to view our homes together. I know I've spoken to you about the Court of Fontaine, but would you like to see it for yourself?
[It's a very typical arrangement on the couch for them, and Heizou is sure to snuggle in even closer as he listens to that explanation. The whole time he turns the scryglass over and over in his hands, deeply intrigued.
As soon as Lyney mentions the court of Fontaine, Heizou looks back at him with an excited, boyish grin.]
I would love to! You know I've always wanted to see Fontaine one day~
[He holds up the scryglass in both hands, looking it over carefully. He hums a bit.]
Alright... they said I just need to hold it in my hands like this, and focus...
[He closes his eyes, holding the scryglass steady. At first, nothing happens. But then, slowly, a mist begins to swirl within the scryglass, shifting and parting like clouds in the sky.]
[Heizou watches quietly the whole time, staring intently into the scryglass. And as an image starts to pull into focus, Heizou can't help but gasp softly.]
[As the mist disperses in the scryglass, Lyney's face brightens as he recognizes the scene before him.]
Oh my..! Yes! This is... this is the Court of Fontaine!
[Lyney lets out a delighted chuckle as he looks over the sight before him, seeing the familiar sights of home.]
It looks like this is in the city... specifically, the Vasari Passage. It's where most of the shops are located... and there, see? That's the fountain in the plaza!
[He's more than happy to point out the various different sights of the streets he's so used to walking, the streets he calls home. The scryglass image seems to slowly make its way through the town, viewing a few people walking, a few Melusines as well. It's like he was watching through a kamera lens, or perhaps watching through a window of sorts. His voice grows a little small, but not short of wonder.]
It's been so long... I can almost hear the sounds of the city through this...
[It's amazing to behold. Truly Heizou has never seen anything quite like the Court of Fontaine before, certainly not outside of photgraphs or old paintings. And to see it live like this - more or less - really has Heizou's eyes wide with wonder. He feels a little like a kid again, getting this glimpse of the world beyond his tiny village, and it sets his imagination alight. He wants to walk those paths himself. He wants to dip his hands into the fountain water. He wants to see every book on the store stands that line the streets.
He wants to go there with Lyney.
The way the magician's Voice softens doesn't go unnoticed. It gets Heizou to look over at him, his eyes still bright with amazement, and he plants a happy little kiss to the other's cheek. It's not much in the way of comforting him, as Heizou is well aware. But he hopes it assures Lyney that he understands how much home means to him.]
This is incredible, Lyney~ Could you show me the House of the Hearth? I wanna see where you grew up!
[Lyney is a bit distracted, taking in the familiar sights and even pointing a few out to Heizou when he can remember; the Chioriya Boutique where he and Lynette get their clothes, the book shops and Cafe Lutece, the sweets shop where they serve the best pate de fruits... there's so much that he still wants to share with Heizou about his home. But when Heizou asks, he smiles and nods, focusing once more on the scryglass.]
[The mist comes back and covers the image once more, and when it clears, the image has changed once again. This time, it pans up to view a hotel's exterior in the Vasari Passage. There are two separate buildings connected by a walkway spanning over the street below, with high windows and elegant-looking doors. The hotel itself appears unassuming and blends in with the surrounding buildings, and gives off a sense of quiet elegance, but the way Lyney perks up when he sees it says it all.]
There it is... the Hotel Bouffes D'ete. The home of the House of the Hearth.
[He says it with some reverence to his voice, a certain amount of longing as well. The image shifts again, and suddenly they're in a grand sitting room of the hotel, which is full of life and energy in the scryglass. There are a few halls that lead to the hotel's rooms, and in the centre of the room is a fireplace with a warm, inviting fire burning in the hearth. While there are a few adults keeping an eye on things, most of the people depicted are children of varying ages; some schoolchildren aged, some almost Lyney's age. Some seem to be playing with toys, reading books, or fiddling with some kind of mechanical puzzle, while others are polishing daggers or helping to wrap bandages around other children's arms. Such sights may be out of place for an orphanage, but these activities are commonplace in the House of the Hearth. It's a bizarre mix, but it's a familiar image for Lyney to see.]
[In fact, if Heizou were to look at Lyney right now, he'd see how glassy his gaze has gotten, how still his body is. And when he speaks, it's in a hushed whisper.]
There they are... all of them...
[Though he does his best to keep his voice steady, it's clear how deeply he misses them.]
[As the images form and shift and reform and come alive within the scryglass, Heizou is content to watch and listen to all of Lyney's explanations and descriptions. And as soon as he reveals the House of the Hearth, it's easy to tell how much more it affects Lyney. The shift in his voice, the look in his eyes... Heizou knows perhaps better than most how much Lyney has missed home.
He casually links their arms together and rests his head on the magician's shoulder. Keeping his eyes fixed on the scryglass as it takes them both deeper into the House of the Hearth. He doesn't feel the need to prompt Lyney for more, assured that his longing for home will guide them through the images.]
[When Heizou links his arm around his, Lyney hugs it a little closer to him, and shifts just enough to press a warm kiss to Heizou's temple. But his attention is back on the scryglass once more, and he points out a few of the children.]
That one there, reading that book is Foltz; he's the one who helped me with my wounds. He was abandoned as a child because he had a habit of choking his family pets to death; Father later found out he had a strong curiosity for biology, and has since curbed those habits of his by offering him books and dissection kits. And there, that little girl over there is Heloir. She's something of a master at potions, and is our best mixer of poisons and antidotes. I think she finds it fun to find out what ingredients can come together to create what kind of brew. And that older fellow there is Chapleau. He's one of our experts in surveillance and gathering intelligence, and he--!
[He trails as another figure walks by, his breath catching. He leans in a bit further, watching as the girl dressed in an outfit suspiciously like Lyney's walks by, the glint of an Anemo Vision visible from her ponytail. She moves to take a seat on one of the plush couches, and if it wasn't the uncanny resemblance to Lyney in her facial features, the feline ears and tail definitely give away who that person is.]
[Honestly, it's wonderful to just be snuggled up into Lyney's side and listen to him talk about his family. So Heizou listens intently, carefully filing away these bits of information for future access. What's important to Lyney is important to him, after all.
And when Lynette makes her appearance... Heizou doesn't even need to hear Lyney murmur her name. The resemblance in their faces is almost uncanny, though the ears and tail definitely help give her identity away. He hugs Lyney a little tighter, snuggling in to comfort him.]
Tell me about her.
[Of course he's heard Lyney talk about his sister before, but he gets the feeling that this time will be different. And he's happy to let the magician talk about her as much as he wants. Especially right now.]
[Lyney appreciates how much Heizou is able to pick up on Lyney's little tells, and this is just one more instance of that appreciation. He smiles at Heizou, before looking back at the image of his sister, who is sitting calmly sipping her tea and watching the others.]
She's the best assistant I could ever ask for. More than once she's had offers from other magicians to be their assistant, but she turned them all down. In fact, she shot down the idea before I could even give it a proper voice. She's like that, you know; whatever's on her mind, she wastes no effort in making her desires known. [Much like a cat, really; if she liked something, she said it; if she didn't, she let them all know.] But more than that... she's just a wonderful sister. She's always there to help keep me steady and remind me not to over-exert myself. She always tells me: "No one needs self-satisfied concern."
[He pauses, watching her for a moment, before speaking up again.]
She actually got her Vision before I did. And when she did... I was so worried about falling behind, that I asked Father to grant me a Delusion to do so.
[He's quiet as he listens with a little smile on his face, watching Lynette intently as she minds her business. He can see how she perfectly complements Lyney; where he always seems to be vibrating with energy, she's like a still body of water, calm and quiet and steady. It's little wonder why he misses having her around, just a strong presence to keep him stable and grounded.
Heizou knows he could never replace that, but he does hope that Lyney still finds comfort and safety in his arms.
As Lyney admits to asking for a Delusion, he turns slightly to give him a thoughtful look.]
...You wanted to be able to stay at her side during missions, didn't you? So you could continue to keep each other safe?
[They really were opposites in every way; where Lyney was loud, flamboyant, drank in the spotlight, and commanded attention, Lynette was calm, observant, and operated within the shadows. He helped her to get out of her bubble more, and she helped keep him grounded. In their shows she made for the perfect assistant, operating behind the scenes while he took centre stage, and on their missions she sank into the shadows and struck with a razor's edge while enemies were distracted by Lyney. Like two sides of a whole, the two of them complemented each other in ways only siblings, only twins, ever could. So of course it hurt when they were separated, especially when Lynette got her Vision before he did.]
Of course. After all, Vision wielders are more useful on dangerous missions, and without that kind of help, there was no way I could keep up. And with her going on more dangerous missions, I just... wanted to make sure she was safe. So I thought the power of a Delusion could help me go on missions with her. [He shakes his head.] All Father had to ask me was what Lynette would think if I told her what I was planning. That was enough to make me back off.
[He looks back at her again.]
Instead, I found ways to help her plan her missions ahead of time. Paths in and out that she could use easier, ways to get around danger... it wasn't much different than planning for a magic show, in the end.
[Heizou's eyes linger on Lyney for a little longer, just taking note of the way he watches the image of his sister in the scryglass. He really can't even imagine how much it must hurt for him to be separated from her for as long as he has. But he can so perfectly picture this younger version of Lyney that he's talking about, just desperate to keep Lynette in his sights for fear of what could happen while they're apart. It makes Heizou rub at his boyfriend's arm reassuringly, right as he rests his head on his shoulder again to look at the scryglass once again.]
You're a good brother, Lyney. Even when you're forced apart, you're always thinking of your siblings. It's one of your finest traits, you know~
[He smiles softly, and there's something... sort of grateful in his eyes as he looks at Lynette. He's so glad that both she (in a manner of speaking) and Arlecchino prevented Lyney from getting a Delusion. Heizou is well aware of what they do to people. Even someone as strong as his dear magician.]
...I'd like to meet her one day. I hope she thinks I'm good enough for you.
Well, I just try my best… after all, family’s all we’ve had for the longest time. We don’t want to lose it.
[Lyney turns away from the scryglass to look more squarely at Heizou, and he smiles as he does. There’s that slow, adoring blink he does as well, a sign of how content he is.]
Oh, I’m sure she’d approve of you. Then again, I’m hard-pressed to find someone who wouldn’t be! After all, one as thoughtful and clever as you? How could anyone not adore you?
[Perhaps he’s laying it on a little thick, but he speaks the truth. Or at least what he believes is the truth.]
Ah, but look at me… I’m taking up so much time, aren’t I? I should let you have your time with your gift as well.
[He then meets Lyney's gaze with a chuckle, melting a little when he blinks at him like that. Heizou's sure that the magician has no idea he even does that, and it's one more secret he doesn't mind keeping to himself. He likes it, after all. So much. It makes him lean in to press a tiny, affectionate little kiss to the other's nose.]
I hope you're right! But I also think you might be just the tiniest bit biased, dearest.
[Not that he particularly minds. Especially not when Heizou might be a little biased when it comes to Lyney. His amazing magician, gentle and strong and perfect.
When he draws back he rests his head back on Lyney's shoulder and tries to snuggle in even more, practically laying his legs over the other's lap. He's not ready to give up how comfortable he is like this, warm and pressed into his boyfriend's side.]
Not yet! I wanna see a little more of Fontaine first. I'd like to see what the water looks like there... And where is the Opera Epiclese? You said you performed there, right? And that's where they hold trials?
[Honestly the jury's out on if Lyney even realizes he's doing it himself. It's such an unconscious thing, it's very possible that he doesn't realize he's doing it. It's why when Heizou kisses his nose, it comes as a bit of a surprise for him. Still, he chuckles and grins softly at Heizou.]
Even so, if she does have any problems with you, I can help you to get on her good side.
[Though honestly, so long as Heizou doesn't hurt Lyney or betray him in any way, Lyney sees no reason why Lynette wouldn't approve of him. Lyney welcomes Heizou into his lap, cuddling him close before turning back to the scryglass.]
Alright, alright. Yes, the Opera Epiclese is where I perform, and where trials are held... would you like to see it first, or the water?
